Nick Fitzhardinge Photography is a multi-skilled photography business based in the Canadian Rockies working with guests and brands from around the world.

Nick Fitzhardinge is a Canadian landscape photographer and professional guide based in Canmore (“Chuwapchipchiyan Kudi Bi”) in the Canadian Rockies. He is a dual citizen of Australia and Canada, originally growing up in Tasmania surrounded by art and immersed in nature: with a mother as a landscape artist weekends and holidays were often spent exploring mountains, lakes, waterfalls, forests and coastline. He developed a love for geography and pored over maps of the state, imagining what each location might be like based on contour lines, names and elevations. A fusion of his artistic upbringing with a love for exploring the outdoors eventually grew into an unwavering passion for landscape photography.

Nick is a professionally certified, & winter accredited, guide with both the ACMG (Hiking Guide) and the IGA (Professional Interpreter). It is in the Canadian Rockies that he feels in his element; taking his best photographs, exploring his creativity and curiosity on the search for new angles, rare light and emotive moments in time. These mountains are an endless source of inspiration to him and with a keen eye and an open mind he sees them anew every day. Nick seeks to share his connection to this place through the imagery you will find here on this website and through the experiences you can have when you join him out among these majestic mountains.

Artist Statement

“My Photography is based on a sense of appreciation and connectedness with the natural world. By portraying nature’s myriad of emotions through rare displays of light, atmosphere and mood, the intent is to inspire the viewer into seeing a little of the magic in the world that they perhaps weren’t aware of, to have them hold these places in higher esteem, and to leave them with a sense of wonder for what might be found around the next corner”.

Landscape Photography to me is a deeply personal pursuit that has become a part of who I am. Being in nature is an uplifting, healing & necessary routine for me. Whether I take a photo or not is not important as I have always naturally prioritized exploration & the experience first. I remain positive, open minded, and curious with child like enthusiasm about everything from the grand landscape at an iconic location all the way down to minute details at my feet in an unidentifiable swamp. I’m in tune with weather patterns and the qualities of light, while seeing or pondering compositional possibilities on a daily basis. I’m just as excited about photography now as I was when I first started out and could not imagine a more fulfilling pursuit for myself in this lifetime”.

“I present the scenes that unfold in front of me as seen through my camera lenses, finding great satisfaction when capturing images that are completely unique and that are natural depictions of a single moment in time. I find purpose & joy in the ongoing cycle of being awe inspired by nature, preserving those peak moments through photography, and improving how I capture and see the landscape”.

I’ve had an amazing time learning photography in the mountains around Banff with Nick. He is very approachable and friendly – when I first contacted him he responded super fast and answered all my questions.

I’ve now been on two group trips with Nick and both were great – small groups, beautiful locations, really well thought out and organized and it’s clear that Nick is happy to share his extensive knowledge of both photography and the mountains. He is diligent in ensuring everyone is happy, comfortable and safe and it doesn’t matter how experienced you are, he is able to provide advice and encouragement to beginners through to the experienced photographer.

I’m super happy with my progress since I started learning with Nick, reigniting my interest and passion for photography.
