Couldn’t ask for more from a guide. Nick was incredibly knowledgeable and well researched. He really went above and beyond at every step of the way to make this a great experience. He knew the Lake O’Hara area really well and had a well-thought out day planned for the group that put us in some great photo spots at several points throughout the day.

As other’s have mentioned about Nick, he’s incredibly approachable and is an excellent photography instructor. He had several nice composition suggestions for us as well as frequent tips throughout the day. It’s a fine line to walk – but Nick had a perfect amount of advice for each of us in the group without being overbearing.

Nick’s communication with us as a group both before, during, and after the trip were perfect. Always felt “in the loop” with what the plan was.

Would do another trip with Nick in a heartbeat.

Just had a super two days with Nick doing a photography workshop to Abraham Lake. Nick is a great teacher, very patient, explains things in a way that is easy to understand and pitches his tips and advice to your personal level of experience perfectly. His knowledge of the mountains is extensive, which makes for a super interesting trip.
He is also very safety aware. He was actively ensuring everyone was warm enough (we had extreme cold conditions), that everyone was safe walking on the frozen lake and taking covid precautions.

I was visiting Banff and decided to see if I could get a photography lesson. I was so lucky Nick was available later in the week. Prior to meeting he asked what equipment I was using and what I hoped to learn. He quickly responded with an itinerary. We met early and within a couple hours we captured a beautiful night shot of the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, a stunning photo of the last full moon of winter, an awesome Mt Rundle sunrise, along with tips for macro photography that weren’t on my list. A post edit education session was included and it was fantastic. Nick is an expert, knowledgeable, organized, and he has excellent communication skills. I was so satisfied with the entire learning experience, money well spent, and fun too!

I had my first ever private photography tour with Nick last night. I coudn’t have wished for a better experience. Nick is an amazing teacher, very knowledgeable and passionate about the nature and landscape photography. He knew just the right place and time for the photo despite harsh weather conditions. ( It was raining and thundering). I was able to take amazing pictures, including a shot with a rainbow, storm cloud on the top of the mountain, and night city view from above the hill. Nick is also kind, funny, and approachable person. He is extremly professional, flexible, fast to respond to e-mails. He let my husband and daughter to tag alone with us, which made it a wonderful family experience.

An amazing trip that far exceeded my already high expectations. Nick is simply the best. He’s low key yet totally organized. He got our group into the back country where I could never have gone on my own. We had a ton to do and see and photograph. He gave each of us personalized instruction and I learned lots. Best of all, I came back with great images. If you want a terrific tour, he’s THE ONE.

Just got home from a great photo adventure with Nick. There are three ways that Nick made this trip really fun for me. First, he has spent hundreds? of days hiking and reaching summits in the Canadian Rockies so I felt confident being out with him in the backcountry at all hours of the day and night. Second, as a photographer, Nick did a wonderful job to have us in beautiful locations (e.g. in front of reflective lakes, etc.) during incredible late evening or morning light. Third, he gave great photographic advice from helping me learn more about my camera menu to suggestions for in-the-field compositions, to editing 2-3 of his photos for us during our downtime. The trip paid for itself by the end of day 1, and I’m already on the list to join Nick again next summer.

I went on a photo tour with Nick for half a day in Banff and it was quite the adventure! He helped me navigate to a less known area to shoot the 3 sisters (my bucket list shot). Nick is super down to earth and has a vast amount of knowledge when it comes to compositions and technicalities of the camera. Nick did not come to the tour with his own camera and gear to shoot for himself. He came to the tour ready to teach me and focus on my learning. This is imperative for a great student/teacher lesson! That merits big respect! He was very helpful with being proactive by helping me set up a tripod, or take one down (as simple as it sounds) but it matters when you’re on the move from location to location. I would highly recommend Nick to anyone no matter your level of skills in the world of photography! I feel privileged to have gotten the chance to learn from Nick as I take away a lot of good tips and tricks to enhance my work. Thanks a lot Nick!

We spent several days with Nick in the Banff area in August. It was a fabulous experience. Nick was so patient and knowledgeable, not only about photography but the geography and history of the area as well. We were grateful for his preparedness and his willingness to slow his hiking pace to match two 50-something women. He was always pointing out interesting compositions and was full of helpful tips which was particularly gratifying as I am fairly new to photography.Overall, it was an amazing trip and I would not hesitate to book another one with Nick. I highly recommend his photo tours!

Nick took his time to explain how night photography works, showed me which steps I should take, until I got the hang of it and started to understand! So pleased we took this workshop; with the knowledge I acquired I took even more beautiful photos the following days of our holiday!

I’d definitely recommend Nick for any starting or well advanced photographer, he’s really friendly and well approachable, we felt right at ease :-). You’ll notice his passion and love for nature and photography, which makes it even more fun!

Nick is also very confident getting to the best spots for some great shots, even in the middle of the night, he knows his way around really well.

Would definitely consider doing another photography tour with Nick when we return one day!

I just returned from a workshop with Nick. “Banff After Dark – Milky Way & Mountains” perfectly fitted the name. Nick is an excellent photographer and guide; he’ll know exactly where to go to achieve the workshop’s goals. Where does the milky way core appear, and when does the moon rise? At what time does it set, so it is darker, etc. He will spend a lot of time with each participant offering them tips on the technical side and the composition and creative sides. This was my second workshop with Nick, and it won’t be the last.

Nick Fitzhardinge is an amazing guide and teacher. Along with the extensive local area knowledge and experience in photographing the locations in various seasons, Nick is blessed with immense patience. No task is too big or too much for him!

I was constantly amazed at how Nick would bring us to each location to catch that perfect light every single time – be it sunrise, sunset or the glorious afternoon light spilling over the mountains. In spite of us being a big group, Nick gave individual attention to all and ensured we were well set up ahead of time.

The ease with which the workshop ran mixed with a variety of adventures and the amount of fun we had is simply top notch.

I would give this experience five stars and absolutely recommend Nick’s Photography Workshop to everyone looking for fun & adventures photographing in the extreme Canadian winter.

Thank you Nick, for some truly precious memories.

Nick is the man.
I’ve had the priviledge to shoot with Nick and learn from him on a few occasions and I was stoked recently to join one of his workshops at Lake O’Hara. He knows the area well, and was extra prepared in case any of us weren’t, packing extra jackets, water tablets and even hot chocolate. Nick is a good guide but even more so, a good dude.

Matt

Thanks Nick for an amazing afternoon of teaching me basic photography tips on how to use my new camera. I am a beginner and he showed tons of patience and took me to some amazing places to take photos that I would have never found on my own. I am looking forward to booking more sessions with him. I would recommend Nick for all levels of photographers. Thanks again for a fun day!!

What a great four-day workshop. From the strikingly beautiful and unique winter landscapes in the Canadian Rockies to the friendly and precise advice from the tour leader, everything was perfect. Nick has an extense knowledge of the area and its history; one can also sense his love for every blade of (frozen!) grass, for every pebble and rock – and oh, how he adores and respects those mountains! Each day was a delightful adventure, including frozen lakes surrounded by mountains, the famous methane bubbles in Lake Abraham, pinky sunrises and sunsets with fantastic first planes, snowy scenery in an idyllic resort, night photography… And on top of experiencing such inspiring locations and moments, I learned a lot both in technique and composition, thanks to Nick’s straightforward teaching approach, to his patience, generosity, and involvement. He was also helping all the travelers with their luggage, their equipment, and everything that would make us comfortable and fully dedicated to our photography. Truly beyond expectations. I hope I will be able to go back to the Rockies and enjoy every season, guided by Nick’s world-class photography (+ postprocessing) skills, his keen eye for beauty, and his kind nature.

Nick does an outstanding job of organizing and leading his workshops and private tours. He has a vast vault of knowledge of the Canadian Rockies because of backcountry guide licensing so you know he is going to make safe decisions on where he is taking you.

He also is a very skilled photographer and helps to make sure you are set up properly to capture the best of the scene with regards to camera settings and lens choices. When an awesome scene spontaneously presents itself, he has got great enthusiasm which is contagious as well.

13/10, highly recommend.

Nick

Spent 3.5 days with Nick visiting Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper & Nordegg areas. Nick has a superb knowledge of the Alberta Rockies and where to get the best shots making the most of the prevailing weather and light.

The tour had the right balance of guiding and photography tips, Nick is always on hand to answer any questions I had, Nick also shared some of his post processing tips, which I hope to put to good use on my images.

If you are looking to shoot some iconic locations along with some lesser known spots, I can recommend booking a private tour or workshop with Nick, you won’t be disappointed.
