  • WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

    Some testimonials from past guests:

    – “Nick is incredibly knowledgeable about both photography and the surroundings we’re shooting in, which helped me connect more with the landscape. I learned so much in just a few days. He works with you and the style you like to shoot in and gives you tips and composition ideas. He ensured everyone in the workshop was safe and comfortable as well. I hope to do another workshop with Nick again!”  –  Ti-An

    – “Spending a few days with Nick in the Banff area were days well spent! We loved Nick’s patience and knowledge, never once making us feel inadequate, whether it was with our cameras or our physical ability to go places. His gentle reminders about technical use of our gear, and pointing out amazing compositions were all appreciated. Nick is not just knowledgeable about photography, but we also learned so much about the area, the geography and history. Within hours of meeting Nick, I felt safe, as if my own son was taking me on a vacation. I would not hesitate to book another tour with Nick and take my love of photography and the outdoors even further”  –  Sheryl

TAYLOR LAKE

(1 night/2 day larch backpacking photo adventure – September 23rd-24th, 2025)

What to expect

Alpine lakes, secluded tarns, hidden valley’s, wide open views, pristine wilderness, and an absolute plethora of golden yellow larches. There will be many unique photographic opportunities on this overnight backpacking photo adventure.

A moderate level of fitness is required. Walking distances of up to 10km per day with elevation gain of approximately 600 metres per day to reach the different areas in the region. You will need to be able to carry your camera gear & any necessities with you over these distances. A small group size limited to 5 participants to keep our impact low and maximize your learning experience through our photography instruction & mentoring.

This is a camping based adventure staying at Taylor Lake Campground overnight for 1 night. Participants will need to bring their own gear (sleeping bag, tent, sleeping mat), along with their food. A large backpack will be necessary. Once it is emptied in camp it would be efficient if it can double as a your daypack thereafter. Packing recommendations will be provided. It is a great way to unplug, get off the grid and connect with the outdoors!

I am a licensed guide in Banff National Park with current first aid and advanced wilderness first aid certifications & have taken many prior trips into this area. This workshop is suitable for all levels of photography experience as there will be many one on one opportunities throughout our time together. I will be by your side providing all that I know and love about landscape photography.

Pricing includes your camping reservation, 1v1 photography instruction throughout the trip, and a professional ACMG/IGA Hiking Guide.

FAQs

Where do we meet for this on day 1?

We will meet at Taylor Lake trailhead in between Banff and Lake Louise at 9am on day 1.

Where can I get food on this trip?

You will need to bring your food with you. I will provide recommendations on what to bring. This means 1x breakfast, 2x lunch and 1x dinner + snacks. Camp gas/stoves will be provided if you do not have your own & we will store everything in the bear proof lockers provided.

What happens in the case of poor weather?

The Taylor Lake Larch Photo Adventure will go ahead regardless of the weather conditions. Your photographs will look interesting in all types of weather and some of the most creative and unique photos come from the most improbable conditions! Bring weather appropriate clothing.

What level of photographer is this for?

All! We enjoy taking out complete beginners and teaching them all about their equipment and nature photography just the same as if we have a more experienced photographer who prefers more location guiding, safety considerations & logistics than photo instruction.

Will I need to sign a waiver to participate?

Yes, we will bring it for you to sign when we meet at the trailhead. A copy will be provided in advance for viewing.

What is the cancellation & refund policy?

There are no refunds, however we do consider requests on a case by case basis. See our terms & conditions.
